In this course you will learn about the typical hazards to look out for in an office environment and how to control exposure to these hazards for yourself and your colleagues.
This training intervention introduces learners to health and safety legislation and why it is important to comply. The primary legislation considered in this course is the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The course also deals with the benefits of compliance for every level of the organisation.
Learners found competent in this unit standard will be able to explain the basic principles of health and safety legislation that are specifically relevant to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as the consequences of non-compliance.
The theme of this programme is the Tongaat Mall Disaster which resulted in the death of two people and the loss of millions of Rands. Different aspects of the disaster are discussed in each module of the programme. The disaster occurred on the 19th of November 2013, when a section of the Tongaat Mall collapsed. The mall was being constructed at the time of the incident.

The Safety Health and Environmental Management Plan (SHE plan) for KBC Health & Safety (Pty) Ltd has many of the same elements found in traditional non-office environments. However, different potentials for personal injury and property damage are present. The office has relatively few hazards and risks, such as hazardous chemicals, slips, trips and falls and ergonomic risks. This programme assists office employees to be aware of these hazards and ensure that their work environment is safe.
This training intervention introduces learners to health and safety legislation and importance of full compliance, with regard to their legal appointment. The legislation considered in this programme is the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and Regulations, and the Minerals Act Regulations.
Upon completion of this module, delegates would have an embedded knowledge of the key components, depicted in the Mine Health and Safety Act, regarding their legal appointments and will understand the consequences of non-compliance.
At the end of this course, learners will be able to:

The initial component of the module focuses on the legal liability and legal appointments. Upon completion of this module delegates would have an embedded knowledge of the key components depicted in the Mine Health and Safety Act regarding their legal appointments and consequences of non-compliance.
